BLYTHEWOOD, SC (WHS-TV) - Westwood running back Andrew Plante recently claimed the state championship in the 190-pound weight class at the 2014 State Strength Competition at Lexington High School.
Westwood took 10 athletes to the competition, with two placing in the top three: Plante and Christian Brown, who placed second in his weight class. As a sophomore, Plante has won the three biggest competitions in the state for varsity players. At the Nike SPARQ competition in Charlotte in February, he scored 99.18, which is the highest sophomore score in South Carolina. The score is fourth highest in the nation for a sophomore running back. He has an invitation to the NTC Best in the country in June. In early March, Plante took first place in the S.C. High School Varsity Regional Strength and Speed Competition, which earned him the invitation to the state competition. Also in March, Plante won the Overall MVP award for the competition at the National Underclassmen Combine at Dutch Fork High School, which earned him an invitation to the Ultimate 100 in Atlanta in June.
